Backstage and the New Marketplace
Backstage is an open-source project that originated at Spotify and was subsequently contributed to the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF). This powerful platform is utilized by platform teams to create customized developer portals. It empowers developers to create their own Kubernetes service catalog, all within a unified environment that seamlessly integrates infrastructure, services, and documentation. Backstage's promise is to provide a "single pane of glass" with a low-friction developer experience.
Spotify has open-sourced Backstage a few years ago with the goal of becoming a trusted and standard toolbox for the open-source infrastructure landscape. Over the years, the community has grown and driven this goal forward and today we can witness the launch of the new Backstage Marketplace that expands on the plugins that are available to Backstage users today, and offers a centralized location to learn about and access some of the leading available integrations. Weaveworks is excited to be a featured launch partner in the Spotify Marketplace for Backstage with our latest Flux plugin for Backstage!

GitOps Automation with the Flux CD Backstage Plugin
Weaveworks has recently released the Flux CD Backstage plugin with the goal of enhancing the developer experience within Backstage. This plugin equips application developers and platform teams with the tools they need. Some of the features of the Flux CD plugin include:
- Understanding Flux Resources: The plugin provides effortless insight into the state of Flux resources across your Backstage entities. Users can easily and quickly determine the version of a deployed component, its current status, and when it was last updated.
Tracking Flux CD Deployments: Developers can access enriched data for Flux-managed resources, gaining deeper insights into Kustomizations and HelmReleases. Furthermore, they can track the rollout status of various components, from virtual machines to databases and cloud services, all within Backstage's unified view.
View Flux Sources: Managing and interacting with sources such as Git, Helm, OCI repos is now much simpler. With a single click within your Backstage portal, developer teams can effortlessly view and synchronize sources, as well as initiate reconciliation loops, streamlining their workflows and enhancing efficiency.
This seamless integration between Backstage and Flux empowers application teams to navigate and operate GitOps-enabled applications and infrastructure with unparalleled ease.
